Damaged jet lands safely
p A Auckland Passengers clapped and cheered when the pilot of an Auckland-bound Boeine 747 with shredded Kfes brought the jet safely to a halt at Honolulu Airport, according to an Aucklander who was of
off from Honolulu early on Friday. The cowling had fallen from another Continental plane going to Sydney. An Auckland man travelling on the flight said yesterday: “We seemed to be on the verge of lifting off when there was this very loud bang. “The plane then appeared to start braking, and it kept a pretty j straight path. It certainly
didn’t skew around. “It could have been very serious indeed,” said the Auckland man. "I think everyone realised just how lucky they were.” About 90 passengers delayed by the incident were flown to Auckland via Sydney late on Friday. A further 150 came by direct flight early on Saturday. »
