Canty B hockey success
A Canterbury B XI beat Ashburton, 4-2, in a hockey match at Porritt Park on Friday evening, in a curtain-raiser to the New Zealand-Australian Institute of Sport match. The Canterbury B team included two players from the A squad, and the New Zealand team trainer, and former New Zealand and Auckland representative, Arthur Parkin. Canterbury' had a 4-0
lead at the interval, Peter Tynan scoring two goals, and Greg Clark and Parkin one each. The Ashburton team was hard done by when it had the ball in the net only a minute after Canterbury scored its first goal; what seemed a legtimate goal was disallowed. Ashburton, winner of the India Plate (third section) at the national tournament in Whangarei
. in September, fought back bravely in the second half and deserved its two goals, scored by Bramley Amos and Robbie Bennett. Ashburton showed a fine appreciation of the artificial «surface,, using space well, and running off the ball thoughtful, and should perform creditably in the Rothmans Cup (second section) at next year’s national tournament in Christchurch:
