Dairy robberies by same men?

Two men are believed responsible for three latenight robberies at Christchurch dairies on Wednesday. The pair, one acting as a driver, robbed the Empire Dairy in the Main North Road and the Greers Road Fruit and Dairy in Greers Road just after 10 p.m. They then abandoned their car, which had been stolen earlier in the evening from the Papanui Hotel car-park.

At 2.40 a.m. the same men are believed to have held-up the Hagley Park Dairy, in Riccarton Road, taking $393.

Detective Senior-Ser-geant David Whitford said the description of one of the men was similar in all three incidents. He believed the robberies were committed by the same people.

The man who entered all three dairies was described as 167 cm (sft 6in) tall, possibly Maori.
