N.Z. wins skating
The New Zealand men’s ice skating team soundly beat its Australian counterpart in the first Tasman Trophy race at The Big Apple rink last evening. The New Zealand team of Mike McMillen, Shane Bradford and Matthew Briggs easily won the 1500 metre event, recording 2min 45.7 s compared with Australia’s
The trophy was won by New Zealand when last contested in 1984 and is being held in conjunction with the national track speed championships. The remaining races between the two three-man senior teams are over 500 metres, 1000 metres and 3000 metres. There is also a 3000 metre relay between the two countries. *
