The day in Parliament
PA Wellington Ministers answered 23 questions when Parliament resumed at 2 p.m. yesterday. Ministers answered 17 questions. The Speaker declined a request for a snap debate on the sale of Petrocorp shares. He said the announcement of the sale had been made on Tuesday evening and for the debate to meet the requirements of Standing Orders a request should have been made on Wednesday. Mr G. B. Braybrooke (Lab., Napier), chairman of the Communication and Road Safety Select Committee, reported back on two petitions. Both were recommended for consideration.
The petition of Keith Winston Salmon and David Ewart Sidwell asked for amendments to the law and other measures to provide for the creation of cycleways and to improve and promote cycling facilities and cycling safety. Ashley Bent and 2055 others petitioned for legislation to make third party vehicle insurance and other requirements compulsory so as to make it difficult for uninsurable owners of motorvehicles to share the highways with other motorists. The Address-in-Reply debate resumed.
