Charred notes discounted
Charred banknotes seen in the possession of a man at a Bexley service station on Sunday are not connected with an Auckland burglary. The police believed the money may have been part of $lO,OOO stolen by burglars who used gascutting equipment to enter a safe at a service station in Point Chevalier, Auckland.
A man passed a
charred note on Sunday in Bexley and the service station attendant noticed he had more.
Publicity surrounding the incident prompted the man to come forward.
Detective Senior-Ser-geant David Whitford said the police were satisfied with the man’s explanation that six notes were partly burnt in a household accident.
