Rebecca Rhind, aged seven, a pupil at Leeston Consolidated School, became the youngest member' of the Red Cross 500 Club when she was presented with her membership certificate by the 500 Club chairman, Mr Brian Lee, yesterday.

Rebecca read about the club tn a brochure her grandmother had, decided she would like to be a member, and sent $l, inquiring in her letter if this was enough and saying she would like to help.

The executive director of the North Canterbury Centre of the Red Cross Society, Mr Ken Ward, said he was impressed with the drawings in Rebecca’s letter and pleased to accept her donation. As she is the youngest person to join the newly formed fund-raising club, he invited her parents to bring her to Christchurch to receive her certificate.

' In December last year a group of Christchurch businessmen launched the Red Cross 500 Club to raise $500,000 for the North Canterbury Centre.
