Rousing return to ice bv Nicholson

Chris Nicholson (Auckland) made his return to the ice in the first day of the New Zealand ice racing championships, at the Big Apple rink yesterday. .Nicholson had not competed since July when he fell and hurt himself on the sharp edge of his blades. He skated creditably yesterday to secure a place in the semi-finals of the 1000 metre and the 500 metre senior men’s races. /. Nicholson delighted his team members with an impromptu dance on the ice. He completed a brave if inempt pirouette and gained a round of applause...’i.i Andrew Nicholson, aged 16; looked strong in spite of- his small size and

headed off all competition with skill and speed. He/ broke the New Zealand record in the intermediate men’s 1000 metres. Four of the competitors are from Australia.
