My Lightning Blue final favourite
NZPA-AAP Brisbane The sunshine and beaches of Noosa have beckoned the top Victorian horseman Jim O’Sullivan for two easy days before taking the reins behind the SAustl 10,000 Commodore Championship final favourite, My Lightning Blue. My Lightning Blue is 46 pre-post favourite to win the Commodore, the first leg of the Australian Grand Circuit, after drawing the rail in tomorrow evening’s Albion Park feature.
O’Sullivan, who made his mark in Queensland before shifting his base permanently to Melbourne in late 1980, left last season’s Inter Dominion champion in
the care of long-time friend Darryl Nutley. My Lightning Blue was flown to Sydney from Melbourne last week, Darryl Nutley bringing the New Zealand-bred five-year-old to Brisbane by float, arriving at Kurwogbah, on Brisbane’s northside, last Thursday. “He’s worked really well since he arrived,” said Tony Nutley. O’Sullivan gave the stallion fast hoppled work at the Creek on Wednesday morning and will return today, to give the horse more strong work. Brian Stainkey, the trainer-driver of the 5-1 second favourite, Toolara Dream, said his charge was in “tip top order” for the final.
The N.S.W. Hamess Horse of the Year, Paleface Bubble (7-1), will have the services of the top Brisbane freelance driver, Peter Greig, tomorrow.
The trainer, Michael Ilsley, was suspended for a month at Harold Park three weeks ago and failed in an application for a remission.
