Alice Gilroy (St Margaret's College) and Guy Davies (Christchurch Boys’ High School) won the individual titles when the FischerMarker inter-secondary schools' event was contested at Mount Hutt on Wednesday. The race was organise by Ellesmere College. In a reversal of last year’s
results Davies pipped Ricky Johnson (Christ’s College) for the boys’ title by a mere 0.315. By contrast Gilroy was more than 2s clear of the field in the girls’ section. DARTS The Northern Darts team won the Great Northern Shield without losing a match to either Marlborough or Buller in the competition at Timberlands Balmoral Hall. Northern Darts concluded its representative season, with .an unbeaten record. Buller held off Marlborough to take second place. Ten 180 s were hit. The Northern Darts women’s team of eight, many of whom were first-season players, ’ won its matches comfortably.
Gary Rule, of the Northern Men’s A team, was unbeaten. Ron Reti had the best finish of the day, with a 146, and a 180 for the B team. The 1986 South Island singles champion, Peter Hawke, played consistently for Buller A. The New Zealand team’s manager, Matt Lindsay, and Richard Ewer, a promising young player, played well for Marlborough. Hawke was awarded the “Player-of-the-day” title. Points: Northern 93, Buller 71, Marlborough 52.
