Obituary
Mr Dan Stevens
PA Hamilton One of Waikato’s oldest Gallipoli veterans, Mr Dan Stevens, has died at Hamilton’s R.S.A. Sunningdale Veterans’ Home. He was 97. Mr Stevens served with the Otago Infantry Regiment for two years before being invalided home. His son, Mr Ron Stevens, said Mr Stevens sen. was never in Otago but was recruited
because the regiment was short of numbers. During his time overseas Mr Stevens was stationed on Gallipoli for several months. An attack of jaundice prevented him from remaining with his regiment and he travelled to France in a captured German gunboat. He is survived by his son and two daughters.
