Farmyard for Chch children

Squeals of delight filled the air at the Addington Show Grounds yesterday when thousands of Christchurch primary schoolchildren held, fed and stroked a variety of young farmyard animals. The “City Farmyard” has been held by the
Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association each September for the last six years and gives city primary schoolchildren the chance to see young animals. The farmyard is usually held during two days, with about a third of Christchurch’s schoolchildren attending each year, said the executive
officer of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Mr Robin Adams. Chickens, piglets, lambs, calves, horses and goats are just some of the animals the children meet and members of Young Farmers' Clubs are there to provide the introductions. Many of' the children
did not get any other chance to see the animals and some did not know what they looked like before visiting the “City Farmyard,” Mr Adams said. “We know how much the children appreciate their visit by the many delightful letters and pictures we always get each year,” he said*r«.y •
