Hornby loses Nixon
Hornby will be without its outstanding young stand-off half, Mark Nixon, for the remainder of its Lion Red national rugby league tournament campaign. Nixon is among five Canterbury players in the Junior Kiwis side to tour Britain, but the only one from the province, involved in the national club knockout Happily for Hornby, the •former Canterbury fullback, John Griffiths, who is on a police training
course in Wellington, is available for the Lion Red quarter-final against the Taranaki champion, Waitara, at New Plymouth on Sunday. It is probable Griffiths will fill his specialist role, with the utility, Steve Hann, switching into Nixon’s stand-off hall position. Hornby's line-up will otherwise be unchanged from that which beat Omahu Hulas (Hawke’s Bay) last weekend.
