The winners of the racing awards for the 1986-87 season in the “Best News Story” section was Barry Lichter and in the “Best Feature or Background Article,” action, Donna Chisholm. Both journalists work for the "Auckland Star.” These awards of $lOOO, each of which is jointly sponsored by the New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association, New Zealand Racing Conference and the T.A.B. are granted for excellence in racing journalism and recognition of the valuable role which racing journalists perform in the industry.
