Gurners Dream near record
The Leeston horseman, Terry McMillan, produced a likely type of squaregaiter in Gurners Dream to win the trotters qualifying trial at Addington yesterday by 17 lengths in 3:35 for the 2600 m — only .5 of a second outside Armbro Almont’s record for a qualifying trial at Addington. Left in front when Clovelly Pride galloped at the 400 m, the five-year-old Lumber Dream gelding, originally tried as a pacer, cleared out, reeling off his closing quarter in 31s. Gurners Dream is bred to be good being from a sister to the former top trotter, Diogenes (2:1.5). His grand-dam, Janine Scott, has also left another
good trotting winner in Tree. Ascend (5m Sov-ereign-Acclaim) returned 3:38.4 for second, with Clovelly Pride (3g Plat du Jour—Francine) also bettering the required standard by going 3:39.4 a further five lengths away. Timely Intruder, a three-year-old son of Noodlum in Jack Grant’s Prebbleton team, scored a comfortable three-quar-ters of a length win in the fastest 2400 m pacers qualifying heat of the day in a smart 3:11.9. Other pacing qualifiers over 2400 m were: Dalrae’s Advice (4m Sir Dalrae—Miss Advice) in 3:12.1; Paul’s Image (3g Paul Evander—Duvet) in
3:12.5; Morrie (3g Taurus Chip—Miss Elwyn) which dead-heated with Rose and Crown (3f Clever Inocence—Royal Heritage) in 3:15.3; and Ima Lilley (6m Plat du Jour—lma Rose) in 3.T5.4. Jim’s Dream (3g Farm Timer—Smooth Dream), from a half-sister to Hondo’s Dream, Out to Dream and an impressive recent qualifier in Quest for Glory, led throughout to win the pacers mobile qualifying trial in 3:29.2, quickening over his dosing 800 m in 59.35. Tintern Heather (3f Noodlum—Monilene) led all the way in the pacers 2600 m stand trial in 3:33.4, quickening over her last 800 m in 60s.
