The Nelson-based Helicopters (N.Z.), Ltd, has won the Wellington Harbour Board’s contract for the first air-ferry service for harbour pilots. The helicopter will be used about 1000 times a year to ferry Harbour Board pilots to and from cargo ships and some fishing boats using Wellington. The system Involves winching the board pilot down to a ship outside the heads, or winching him off again when the ship leaves.
