Sex offences admitted
Rangiora reporter A man, aged 28, admitted in the Rangiora District Court yesterday that he had sexually violated a girl aged 12 and 13 years, and had permitted her to do indecent acts on him. The offences occurred from October 1, 1985, to October 31, 1986. Judge Guest remanded him in custody to October 7 for sentence in the High Court in Christchurch on the two charges. He called for a pre-
sentence report, a psychiatric report and report nn the effect on the children in the home. The man, whose name was suppressed, also pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis and receiving a camera lens. The Judge declined jurisdiction. Sergeant Russell Henwood said the complainant had run away from home in February this year, had contacted a family friend and told the
friend of the offences. The police and social welfare officers were called. The complainant was placed in social welfare custody at the Children and Family Unit at Christchurch Hospital to have her condition assessed and for counselling. Four other children were also taken into social welfare custody. The complainant was represented by Mr Ron Lemm.
