Survey deputy appointed
PA Wellington Mr Francis Kearns has been appointed Deputy Director-General and Deputy Surveyor-General of the Department of Survey and Land Information, the State Services Commission has announced. Mr Kearns, aged 54, joined the Public Service in 1952 as a draughting cadet with the Lands arid Survey Department in Hokitika. In 1962 he was appointed Director of Lands in Western Samoa. He had previously spent three years there as a registered surveyor. Mr Kearns was land transfer surveyor and deputy chief surveyor, Christchurch, from 1975 to. 1984,. when he took up the post of Chief Surveyor, Wellington district In January this year he was appointed Assistant Surveyor-General (Survey). Mr Kearns is a councillor -of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors and holds the Institute’s Fulton Medallion. He has prpducoki number of pap<s on stMey and survey law.
