Floods toll 900
NZPA-Reuter Dhaka The death toll In Bangladesh’s worst floods for 49 years has risen to 990, with nearly 100 people swept away by strong curents or killed when their homes collapsed in the last week, officials said.
Nearly 60 people died in the worst hit northern district of . Chapainawabganj where floodwaters from the Padma and Mahananda Rivers put several towns under water. Other casualties were reported from Rajshahi, Kushtia, Pabna and Rajbari districts, all in the country’s usually drought-prone north.
