N.Z. pilots to compete in Canada

PA Wellington Top New Zealand Air Force pilots will leave for Canada on September 29 to compete with maritime aircrews from Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom for the prestigious Fincastle Trophy. Crew 4, from Squadron No 5, captained by Flight Lieutenant Peter Douglas, of Waiuku, will fly an Orion aircraft in a test of their anti-submarine skills, the R.N.Z JIF. said. Since 1971, when the competition was extended from an annual bombing competition to examine a wide rage of anti-sub-marine skills, the RJ4JLA.F. has won the trophy three times. New Zealand won the trophy once previously since the trophy was inaugurated in 1961.
