Tax introduced
Hungary’s Parliament voted in favour of introducing income tax and Eastern Europe’s first taste of valued added tax after its liveliest debate in 40 years. The 340-member assembly, once a docile rubber-stamp body, inserted dozens of amendments before voting for the Government’s tax bills, part of a programme to revive Hungary’s deeply troubled economy. — Budapest.
