Composer abroad
The New Zealand composer, Ms Jenny McLeod, is taking part In an international contemporary music festival in Louisville, Kentucky in celebra-' tion of the Louisville Orchestra’s fiftieth anniversary.
The only Australasian composer selected in a world-wide competition, Ms McLeod is one of 21 instrumentalists, composers and music critics from 16 countries who
will join their United States counterparts for 10 days of music, lectures, rehearsals and chamber and orchestral concerts.
The festival will focus on many of the techniques used by composers over the last 40 years.
Internationally known since the 1930 s for its commitment to new music, the Louisville Orchestra win perform works by the seven visiting foreign composers, in-
eluding Jenny McLeod’s “For Seven” (1966), during the course of the festival.
Ms McLeod will also be one of the group bf visitors who* will join a follow-on tour, visiting Chicago, San Francisco, Cleveland and New York over a two-week period, to attend performances by symphony orchestras in each centre as weU as visit contemporary music forums and conservatories.
