Emperor ill Emperor Hirohito, who is suffering from an intestinal disease, has agreed to undergo surgery if necessary, press reports said. The 86-year-old Emperor is suffering from an intestinal disorder but more tests will be made, before a decision is taken about surgery.—Tokyo. Longevity diet A diet of fish and dates was held to be the cause of the longevity of Mohammed Salem Jomaa, citizen of the United Arab Emirates, who has died peacefully, aged 147, the “Al Bayane” newspaper reported. Mr Jomaa, who lived in the village of Ghalileh, in the emirate of Ras Al-Khaima, died of
natural causes, leaving a wife, aged 95, and some 120 descendants, the newspaper said. He had never been known to be ill, and was in full possession of his mental faculties until the end, members of his family said.— \ Abu Dhabi. Musician ill The jazz saxophonist, Stan Getz, was in stable condition at Stanford University Medical Centre a day after a growth was removed from his chest. A university spokesman said Getz remained in the hospital’s intensive care unit but declined further comment on the surgery or condition of the 60-year-old musician, who is an artist-in-residence at the northern California University.
