Censorship lifted
NZPA-Reuter Colombo Sri Lanka has lifted a press censorship order imposed seven weeks ago — the day after an Indian-sponsored peace pact brought a ceasefire in the island’s four-year-old Tamil revolt Censorship had been Imposed on July 30 after
the Indian Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, and Sri Lankan President Junius Jayewardene, signed the accord. It did not affect foreign news media and had the practical effect of discouraging Sri Lankan independent newspapers from being critical of the peace plan.
