Todd confident for league final

PA Sydney The Kiwi rugby league prop, Brent Todd, said yesterday he was confident of being fit in time for what he described as the biggest match of his career. Todd was in doubt for next Sunday’s Sydney grand final when he had to leave the field only nine minutes into the “preliminary final” against Eastern Suburbs at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. Canberra beat Easts, captained by the Kiwi skipper, Hugh McGahan, 32-24, in a see-sawing match in which 10 tries were scored. It now meets ManlyWarringah, which also has

a Kiwi in its line-up, centre Darrell Williams, for the Sydney premiership. Todd was helped off the field and declared himself a doubtful starter for the grand final. However, he said yesterday that x-rays had shown no broken or chipped bones. “It is just a badly sprained ankle which needs some physiotherapy,” he said. “I am confident it will be right for the week-end.” Todd said he was uncertain exactly what caused the injury, but he was in no doubt about the ensuing pain. “I have never been in so much pain with either ankle before,” he said.
