Hospital BdAppomtnwnti THE SOUTH CANTERBURY HOSPITAL BOARD SPECIALIST GERIATRICIAN TIMARU HOSPITAL APPLICATIONS are Invited for the position of Specialist Geriatrician and Director of Extramural Services based at Timaru Hospital. The South Canterbury Hospital Board serves a population of 57,000. There is currently a 30 bed assessment and rehabilitation ward within the general hospital, an 88 bed long stay geriatric hospital nearby in the city, with several smaller geriatric Institutions runs by the Board in adjacent townships. A high priority has been given to development of geriatric facilities in the Board's current service development plan, with extension of the A and R Unit and development of an associated day hospital for the Timaru Hospital site. It is envisaged that for a suitably qualified applicant, some limited Involvement In management of acute general admissions to Timaru Hospital would be appropriate If desired. Timaru Hospital Is a provincial base centre with full staffing in major specialties and an active postgraduate programme. There are friendly relationships between all grades of staff, and an interdisciplinary approach is encouraged. Timaru Is an attractive seaside city with excellent facilities for both summer and winter sports closeby, and with a very pleasant climate. Applicants must be registered medical practitioners with specialist qualifications In medicine that would be acceptable for specialist registration by the New Zealand Medical Council, and appropriate training and experience In geriatric medicine. WAIKATO HOSPITAL BOARD WAIKATO HOSPITAL CHARGE PERFUSIONIST AN EXPERIENCED Clinical Perfusionist is required for a new Adult Cardiac Surgical Unit which Is to be established at Waikato Hospital. The Unit would be expected to be carrying out 200-250 operations per annum by mid-1989. The appointee will be responsible for running the perfusion service, training of other perfusionists, maintenance of equipment, and ordering of supplies. Applicants should possess a relevant qualification such as BSc in Clinical Physiology, NZCS, CCP or equivalent, and to have had extensive experience of clinical perfusion Including intra aortic balloon counter pulsation. The appointee would be expected to take up the post early In 1988. Waikato Hospital Is a modern, well-equipped institution of over 900 beds that provides regional services for a population of 500,000. All major specialties, apart from Neurosurgery, are represented on campus. The starting salary will depend upon experience and qualifications, but would be expected to be within the range $20,529-$32,575, although an exceptional appointee may be appointed beyond this scale. Educational requirements are biology and chemistry, sixth form certificate, grade 4 or better, one other science subject at sixth form certificate level, and a mathematics pass at school certificate level. Appointees will be required to undertake the course offered by the Auckland Technical Institute for the New Zealand Certificate in Science (Medical Science) laboratory technology option. Science graduates with appropriate major and holders of N.Z.C.S. (other than medical) will be considered for senior trainee positions. Appointee’s course will be of three years duration.
