Industry lure need seen
The Christchurch City Council might have to offer Incentives to manufacturers to keep them in the city, says the Acting Mayor of Christchurch, Mr Maurice Carter. Mr Carter was commenting on the council’s role in industry after the announcement yesterday
of 281 redundancies at the Crown Crystal Glass plant at Hornby and another 27 at Andrews and Beaven, Ltd. The redundancies would have a considerable impact on the city, he said. “The council has to do something to make it
more attractive for industry to stay in Christchurch or set up in Christchurch.” The council could offer incentives associated with the industrial land it owned, Mr Carter suggested. The council definitely had to take an active role, he said.
