Boys’ home to close
PA Wellington The Epuni Boys’ Home in Hutt Valley will close in less than two years, the Social Welfare Department says. The closing planned for 1989 is part of a regional plan to provide more specialised services in the community. Some of these services were needed, says a Social Welfare regional executive officer for alternative care, Mrs Anne Frizelle, to meet the growing need to deal with sexual abuse, to teach young people independent living skills and to provide emergency accommodation for young people who need somewhere to stay.
