Injured Jockeys’ Fund established
Mr lan Ross, managing director of Benson and Hedges, presents a $5OOO cheque to Mr Norman Holland, President of the N.Z. Jockeys’ Association and a trustee of the newly established Injured Jockeys’ Fund. The cheque representsthe value of the trophies
for the annual Benson and Hedges Premiership Awards and a substantial donation from the company. The winners of the leading harness racing awards, trainers Roy and Barty Purdon, and driver Tony Herlihy, together with the leading galloping trainers Dave and Paul O’Sullivan, and win-
ning jockey Lance O’Sullivan, donated the value of the major trophies they would otherwise have received to the fund which aims to ensure that injured jockeys receive financial support until formal compensation is paid. The presentation was made at the recently
