Jan Cameron wins
The West Melton apprentice, Jan Cameron, had a change of luck when she rode Bretwalda to victory in the Waitaki Handicap at Waterlea yesterday, but the frustrating run of fortune against the horses from Michael Pitman’s stable continued in the same race. Cameron, sidelined
briefly recently with a minor hand injury, was recording her first win for the season and, indeed, her first since. Bridget Beaufort surprised at Ashburton in June. Cameron was prominent on the list of apprentices last season but since losing her allowance has not had the opportunities she has de-
served. Dester chalked up another second placing for the Pitman stable, the fourteenth it has had since Famillion’s win at Wingatui in June. Earlier in the day Del Da Neil had recorded the thirteenth, while Lady Rio notched the twelfth in the second event, the Guardian Handicap.
