Alterations planned for Church Corner
The Church Corner intersection will be altered with the aim of reducing road accidents there. Proposals to realign the intersection were adopted by the works, reserves, and traffic committee of £ the
Waimairi District Council yesterday. A study of the costs and benefits of traffic lights was also recommended. The change is to make drivers on the Main South Road more aware
of the intersection, and to provide a protected merge lane for the acute angle at the intersection.
The corner is on the boundary of Waimairi District and Paparua County, so the cost of the
changes will be shared by the two councils. “The pile of glass is getting higher every week on that corner,” said Cr David BuisL “If we can reduce, the number of accidents
there, we’re going in the right direction,” said Cr Bruce McFadden. The councils plan to ask for traffic signals to be included in the National Roads Board three-year works programme.
