Used jeans may not sound a very attractive buy but when they are Levi 501 s there is no shortage of takers. The button fly denims are on sale at Wilson’s Army-Navy and Western Stores and are proving very popular, due mainly to their promotion in overseas magazines. Wilson’s 501 s are American-made, and priced about $4O. Levi is the original jeans company. Levi Strauss, a Bavarian, was a salesman on the Californian goldfields who made tent canvas up as work pants when it was found that other fabrics were not stout enough to take the knocks of the diggings. He called them by their lot number, 501, but to the customers they became Levi’s.
