Christchurch North, Central candidates
Because of an oversight, only the pictures of the Labour members of Parliament, Mr Palmer (Central) and Mr Moore (North), appeared with candidates’ views for Christchurch Central and Christchurch North in “The Press” yesterday. Published is a full list of the remainder of the candidates, backgrounding their careers. Mr John Appleby (Wizards Party) is a barrister and cook, aged 32, standing for Parliament for the first time. He was born in Christchurch but has spent half his life travelling outside New Zealand. He says he has had more than 69 jobs, and has been fired only three times. He wants the Wizard declared a living work of art
Mr James Daniels (Breakfast Party), a radio announcer with Radio C93FM, is standing to inject some fun in the election campaign. Only people with written permission can vote for him, he says. He does not live in the electorate but drives through it every day, which, he claims, is a better record than the sitting M.P.
Mr Brendan McNeill (National), is standing for election for the first time, two years after joining the party. He has been working for 11 years in the computer industry, in engineering and managment roles. He says he wanted to campaign because the Labour Government was indifferent to the concerns of average New Zealanders.
Mr Mark Sadler (Democratic Party) has never been a candidate for the party before, though he has been a Keynesian Party candidate twice. He has campaigned against local body amalgamation, and believes Rogernomics will not work. He is a tutor.
