PRESS FASHION” is giving someone the chance to be a model, at least for a day. Our Cover Contest aims to find a young winner with a special look, and if that person has the other necessary attributes winning the contest could be the start of a career as a model. The winner will need to be photogenic, not impossibly beautiful. Il your figure is not flawless don’t be afraid to enter, but remember if you want to go further as a versatile model you will need to be tall and slim. The Cover Contest is open to anyone aged 14 to 22 (inclusive), and as the attached coupon shows there are plenty of good prizes for the winner and semi-finalists. If you are under 18 a parent or guardian must sign their consent for you to enter. Read the entry instructions carefully, then send us your photograph by September 11. The photograph does not have to be taken by a professional — a parent or a friend could do it, but remember the judges will need to see you clearly. If you send a fulllength shot make sure you are not standing far back from the camera. “Press Fashion” will print a selection of entrants’ photographs next month. These will have no bearing on the final result as entries close after the September issue. By mid-September the judges will have chosen 10 to 12 semi-finalists from the photographs submitted. To be in contention for the cover of the October issue of “Press Fashion” semi-finalists must be prepared to be photographed again in Christchurch and have their photographs printed in “The Press.” Semi-finalists will get a glimpse at the world of modelling when Pieter’s Model Agency staff groom them for their photographs by Peter Bannan, who often works for “Press Fashion.” His photographs will be processed and printed by Hanafins and semi-finalists will get them to take home along with Silx pantyhose, and passes to a KerridgeOdeon cinema and the Palladium Nite Club. The Palladium has special non-alcoholic sessions so being under-age will not rule out use of the pass. The winner’s prizes are listed with the entry form. “Press Fashion” will carry more details about these next month.

LINGERIE these days is too good to hide, and increasingly it is being seen as outerwear. Garments such as the stretch lace bustier on our cover now pop up under jackets for evening wear. Madonna, as she raced up the pop music charts a few years ago, flaunted her body and brazenly set the scene for an up front approach to undergarments. She shows less skin these days but still promotes a shapely silhouette in keeping with fashion, and lingerie’s redefinition ol 1950 s styles. “Press Fashion” looks at some new New Zealand lingerie on pages six to 10. For what goes on top see Paula Ryan’s preview of summer fashions on page 11 and parade shots of New Zealand designer garments on the back page. A new column by Kirsty Lay begins on page four this month and alongside is “Style File,” with snippets of the latest fashion and beauty news. Next month “Press Fashion” will assess spring styles for men and women and carry a progress report on the Cover Contest launched in this issue. Details: Gina Oiliver (Spotlight Agency) photographed by Peter Bannan at The George hotel, Christchurch. Cover garments by Showcase Lingerie, available at limited outlets throughout New Zealand. If you have information of possible interest to “Press Fashion” readers please send it by mid-month to Janetta Mackay, “Press Fashion,” “The Press,” Private Bag, Christchurch.
