First round of games
PA Palmerston North The first round of games in the National Women’s Soccer Tournament saw present cup holders Auckland win both games. Play was in perfect conditions at Palmerston North’s, Bill Brown Park. Wellington, last year’s runner-up, also won both its games, as did Canterbury. Manawatu lost in a very close game to Canterbury, 3-2. Goalscorers for Manawatu were Jane Kingston, who scoored a penalty, and Lisa Ward. Kingston also scored all three goals in Manawatu’s 3-2 win over Southland. Taranaki v. Nelson 1 all, Poverty Bay v. BOP 0-3, Auckland v. Waikato 3-0, Hawke's Bay v. Wellington 02, Southland v. Northland nil all, Manawatu v. Canterbury 2-3, Taranaki v. Waikato 0-2, Auckland v. Poverty Bay 5-0, Nelson v. BOP 2-3, Hawke's Bay v. Canterbury 1-4, Manawatu v. Southland 3-2, Wellington v. Northland 2-1.
