Free buses for gay partners
PA Wellington A Wellington City Council committee set a national precedent yesterday by allowing free bus passes to homosexual and lesbian partners of Tramways Union members, according to the union. The secretary of the Wellington Tramway Union, Mr Henry Stubbs, presented a submission to the traffic and transport committee asking that the passes be issued on the same basis as for heterosexual partners. All the committee members spoke in favour of the proposal. The council has a policy bf nondiscrimination and equal opportunity. The Deputy City Secretary, Mr Roy Hanrahan, told the committee it should consider before setting a national precedent However, the committee decided to vote on the change and it was passed unanimously.
