Abortion review pledge questioned
Political reporter
Women should not put faith in Labour’s pledge to review abortion law, said the 'Women’s National Abortion Action Campaign (W.0.N.A.A.C.), yesterday. The promise is contained in Labour’s women’s policy (“The Press,” July 24). It indicates an attempt will be made to legislate the Abortion Supervisory Committee’s recommen-
dation to have all registered doctors become certifying consultants for abortion.
But a spokeswoman for W.0.N.A.A.C., Ms Adaire Hannah, said Labour made the same promise in 1984 and did nothing. She said free contraception was also pledged, along with sex education, and adequate funding for family planning, but these had not been delivered.
