Nat. Bank profit lift

PA Wellington The National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd, had a group net profit of $46.7 million for the six months ended June 30.

The result represented a return on average shareholders’ funds of 19.9 per cent and was compared with a profit of $38.4 million for the previous corresponding half year, the bank’s chief executive, Mr Jim Macaulay, said.

The bank’s domestic operations showed good results and all its main operating subsidiaries — South Pacific Merchant Finance, Ltd, General Finance, Ltd, and Lloyds NZA, Ltd, had performed well, he said.
