The pros and cons of Ansett N.Z. fares

Ansett New Zealand, which began its commercial jet services on the main trunk routes between Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland on Saturday, has confined its fare range to five options — first class and standard (economy) class, and three promotional discounted fares marketed as “Good Buy” deals.

The airline is dedicated to the provision of a new level of service in the air and on the ground. Meals, including hot food, are served on all flights except between Christchurch and Wellington. On this short sector light refreshments, including hot savouries, are offered. Ansett’s full-meal-service flight times are: Breakfast (6 a.m. to 8.30 a.m.); lunch (12 noon to 1.30 p.m.); dinner (6 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.). Refreshments at other times: A low-alcohol bar service is available in both standard class and first class.

The following guide explains the difference in fares which are quoted on the basis of a flight from Christchurch to Auckland.

First class ($328.90)

The only first-class service bn New Zealand domestic routes. Two abreast seating with extrawide, deep-padded seats separated by centre table and generous leg room. Priority check-in and baggage handling. Access to Golden Wing lounge and members’ rate for limousine service. Inflight services include pre-take-off drinks, complimentary newspapers and hot meals and refreshments. Standard Class ($218.90) In other words, normal (non-dlscounted) economy class. Three abreast seating with extra leg-room.

Meals, including hot dishes, served on meal-time flights with substantial snacks and savouries at other times of the day., Good Buy 35 ($284.90 return) Available only for round-trip travel on all flights. Minimum-maximum stay conditions apply (minimum, two nights away; maximum, one year). Must be purchased in advance and cancellation-amend-ment penalties apply. Subject to capacity control. Children qualify for one-third discount off adult rate.
