Maw wins Canterbury ploughing
Ploughmen from the Lincoln Association filled the top three places in the Prebble Seed Canterbury Ploughing Championship which finished ' last week.
The winner, Ivan Maw, of Broadfield,' had a big lead during the final two rounds. His final score was 223 points but his lead was cut drastically during the final round at Lincoln by G. T. Carter (Greenpark) and B. Smith (Broadfield) who finished the contest with 217 points and 214 points respectively.
A. Begg (Wakanui) was fourth with 208 points and D. Brown (Temuka) fifth with 207. S. Patterson (Seadown) won the novice championship with 152 points ahead of S. Watt (Lincoln College) on 138, and A. Redmond (Methyen) on 132. Results of the Lincoln Ploughing Association’s annual match are:—
Non-qualifying Mobil Silver Plough event (Lincoln College Trophy, Golden Mile Trophy): G. T. Carter 1, W. Winter 2, B. Smith 3, A. Begg 4, B. Redmond 5; break, A. Begg; finish, A. King. R. Heaton Rhodes Cup (for competitor who has not ploughed in a N.Z. final): A. Redmond 1, A. King 2, S. Watt 3.
