Charges after police raids
A total of 37 charges have been laid against eight men and six women who appeared before Judge Fraser in the District Court yesterday afternoon as a result of police raids in Christchurch early yesterday. The bulk of the charges related to the sale of cannabis, possession of the drug, and receiving. There was one charge of supplying Lysergide.
The 14 defendants, who did not plead, were remanded to dates between July 30 and August 5 on bail set at between $lOOO and $2OOO. The defendants were arrested in raids by 120 Christchurch police early yesterday.
It marked the end of “Operation Bicep” which involved two undercover policemen who were involved with hotels, sports clubs, and business premises in recent months.
