China grabs five golds
NZPA-Reuter Singapore China made a flying start to the Asian track and field championships In Singapore yesterday, winning five of the six gold medals at stake on the first day. It also produced the day’s best performance when Wang Zhihui broke the Asian record in the women’s long jump by o.scm with a 6.70 m leap. The lanky 22-year-old Shanghai college student broke the record on the
fifth and sixth jumps to gain China its second gold of the evening. Japan’s Masashl. Otokita, aged 24, claimed the first gold of the meeting by winning a well-judged 3000 m steeplechase. ; China continued r its domination in the 110 m hurdles when two of Its runners finished the event in a near dead-heat.
