Kiwi trade quiet
PA Wellington The New Zealand dollar ended little changed from its opening level yesterday after lacklustre trading, and dealers are divided on the likelihood of further upward movement
After opening at U 560.93/ 00c against Wednesday’s close of 60.94/02C, the kiwi
relaxed into a 15 point range before closing at 60.90/93C. The U.S. dollar was attracting most of the international attention because of its greater movement, a dealer said. But if it weakens as a
result of continued Gulf tensions, capital was likely to look for safer havens like New Zealand, several dealers said.
The Reserve Bank trade weighted index eased to 70.5 after opening the day at 70.6. Cross rates for the New Zealand . , dollar were AustBs.9sc, 1.1335 deiitsche marks, 38.14 p, 92.438 yen and 0.9413 Swiss francs. In New York on Wednesday (early yesterday N.Z. time) the U.S. dollar firmed
