Criticism of U.S.
Sir, —The people who regularly “sling off’ at the United States must surely be composed of the ignorant, the tasteless, or the mentally conditioned if they fail to see that American society is a free society where any skullduggery is aired in public, regardless if it be of a private or Government nature. Not so in secretive Russia, where crushing political oppression ensures that any governmental skullduggery is well and truly kept from the people. After all, if one is secretive, it is because there is something to hide. There is far too much glib exploitation of the world’s ills, not because of genuine care, but’ for the opportunity to create propaganda and for some to inject their particular brand of political venom.— Yours, etc., R. LEWIS. July 18, i£B7. &
