Police seek armed robbers
The police seek two men involved in an armed hold-up at the Alamein Sauna and Spa Lounge in Tuam Street on Tuesday evening in which $lBOO was stolen. Three staff members were threatened with a shotgun and a shot was fired at a police car after the robbery. The two men entered the lounge at 9.50 p.m. and ordered three employees in an office area to lie on the floor. The men removed the money and left in a brown Holden car that had earlier been stolen from the New Brighton Working Men’s Club.
A police car, called to the scene, followed the Holden to Hereford Street where it stopped and a man got out pointing the shotgun at the police. The man told a policeman to stay back and then fired the shotgun at the police car in an attempt to blow out a tyre.
The Holden was seen travelling on Buckleys Road and was found abandoned in Pauline Street, Linwood, early yesterday morning. The police seek a male Maori and believe the second man may also be a Maori.
