Four-year or 80,000 km warranty

Imagine buying a new car or light commercial vehicle secure in the knowledge that, apart from the necessity of filling it with petrol and oil to keep it running, it will not cost a cent in four years or over 80,000 km of use.

Regular new-car buyers would tell anyone who even paused to reflect upon such a situation that it was just a pipe dream.

Yet, it will be a dream come true for anyone who buys a new Toyota from Ham Toyota, the new Riccarton outlet for the world’s most popular Japanese cars. Ilam Toyota will open its premises, covering 24005 q m on a large site

at the corner of Riccarton and Wharenui Roads, on Saturday morning and anyone who buys a Toyota between then and Saturday, August 22, will be covered by the four-year or 80,000 km warranty. Ilam Toyota, whose dealer principal is Mr Bruce Mlles, a well-known local motor businessman, believes this will be a first occasion on which such a comprehensive and lengthy new-car warranty has been offered in this country. It covers all parts and labour, free servicing and all manufacturer’s service checks. For the currency of the warranty, the owners will be covered for regular service checks and when there are other maintenance .require-

ments, such as the replacement of points, filters and so on, they will be replaced costfree. What is more, tyres and batteries, more costly replacement items, will also come under the extended warranty. This is an extremely generous offer to Toyota buyers, but Mr Miles does not consider it out-of-this-world for, he points out, he has complete faith in the quality of Toyota products. Naturally, the extended warranty will cover only the cars and light commercials Ilam Toyota will sell in its first trading month, but Mr Miles and his company aims to make the life of any Toy-

ota owner more satisfying and, to that end, the Ilam Toyota Club has been established. Toyota owners who join the club on opening day will receive a free Ilam Toyota watch. This is a one-make car club and members will receive regular newsletters which will keep them abreast of Toyota developments and news. Additionally, club membership will provide access to genuine savings, discounts on special purchases and discount coupons to help defray car-servicing costs as well as discounts on genuine parts and accessories. A free oil filter will be a part of a member’s first service, and those mem-

bers who decide to fit their cars with eye-level brake lights will not be charged the installation fee.

Ilam Toyota Club members will also be able to obtain free valuations and assessment of their cars. The club is exclusive to Ilam Toyota and is entirely independent of Toyota New Zealand, Ltd, and the Toyota dealer network.

As well as helping to improve owners’ standards of care for their vehicles, Mr Miles believes that the Ilam Toyota Club will strengthen pride of ownership in Toyota vehicles and help generate a spirit of comradeship and good will among owners.
