More personal service from smaller firm
As a privately owned courier firm, The Package Express Company (T.P.E.), provides a more personal service for customers.
Package Express has operated a courier service within Wellington city and suburbs since 1978, before it opened another branch in Auckland where it then established a specialist overnight courier and freight service from Wellington to Auckland. Documents, parcels and palletised items such as computers and other bulk consignments are handled by Package Express. In 1985, the Christchurch branch was opened enabling Package Express to cover the whole of New Zealand for
all types of freight from these main centres. Local courier work is also provided by the firm, with emphasis on fast delivery and efficiency. A fleet of owner-drivers in Wellington and Auckland, with vehicles ranging in size from C2O Datsun vans to eight-tonne canopied trucks are used for the deliveries. For all services, door to door delivery is provided. Overnight services into most South Island destinations, are being operated all the time. According to Mr Wayne Pickering, the Christchurch manager for Package Express, a maximum of 72 hours delivery time is provided for any destination in New Zealand.
