Goat’s milk soon

While consumers are being baffled by the competition between bottled and cartoned cow’s milk, the nanny goats are bleating behind the scenes. The Dairy Goat Industry Society, Ltd, in Hamilton, recently began marketing Nanny Goat Lane pasteurised milk in Auckland, where it says it enjoyed a “reasonable measure of success.” Mainland Country Foods, of Christchurch, hopes to begin distributing the milk in Canterbury next week. It’s senior sales manager, Mr Maurice Edwards, said the milk did not compete with cow’s milk, but would appeal to a large number of people who had allergenic or digestive problems with cow’s milk. It is a very digestible milk, with an easily assimilated source of calcium, phosphorus, vitamin A and protein. The goats milk will be available in one-litre cartons, likely to retail for about $2.90, says Mr Edwards.
