Pearson takes lead

NZPA-Reuter Danvers, Massachusetts Becky Pearson broke from a pack two strokes off the pace to take a one-stroke lead over fellow American, Jody Rosenthal, after three rounds of the SUS3OO,OOO the Boston Five Women’s Golf Classic. Pearson, aged 31, a sevenyear veteran of the United States L.P.G.A. tour, whose sole victory came last year, birdied the 16th and 18th holes on a hot and humid day for a two-under-par 69 round

and a 207 total. Rosenthal, whose 73 ended a string of six straight sub-par rounds since a two-week layoff, spread six bogeys and five birdies across her card in touring the tight and hilly 6608-yard Tara Femcroft Club course. Three strokes back were the Americans, Hollie Stacy, Jane Geddes and Patty Sheehan. Another two behind were the 1987 money leader, Betsy King, the Australian, Jan Stephenson, the local favourite, Sally Quinlan, Rosie Jones and Dot Germain.
