Sir Edmund Hillary ‘afraid of heights’

PA • Auckland Sir Edmund Hillary, the first man to stand at the top of the world, confessed yesterday he is afraid of heights. The conqueror of Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak, divulged the secret when asked , about his position as a member of the Phobic Trust of New Zealand. Sir Edmund, who is back in Auckland from New Delhi for a 12-day break from his posting as High Commissioner to India, said he was a trustee of the Phobic Trust and a strong supporter of its work.
